How to Store Your Premixes for Maximum Freshness

Since our premixes don’t rely on artificial preservatives, how you store them at home makes a real difference to how they taste weeks or months down the line. Here’s how to keep every pack — from Gulab Jamun to Chicken Biryani — tasting as fresh as the day it arrived.

1. Keep It Sealed and Airtight

Once you open a pack, air is the enemy. Moisture and oxygen are what cause spice blends to lose their aroma and cake mixes to clump. After each use:

  • Fold the pouch’s zip-lock seal down tightly, pressing out excess air before sealing
  • If the original pack doesn’t reseal well, transfer the contents to a clean, airtight glass or steel container
  • Avoid leaving packs open on the counter for extended periods while cooking

2. Store in a Cool, Dry Place

Heat and humidity are the two biggest threats to premix freshness — especially for spice blends like Garam Masala or Chicken Tikka Premix, where essential oils can evaporate faster in warm conditions.

  • Keep premixes in a pantry or cabinet away from direct sunlight
  • Avoid storing near the stove, oven, or any heat-generating appliance
  • In humid climates or during monsoon season, consider adding a food-safe silica packet to your storage container

3. Cake and Dessert Mixes Need Extra Care

Cake premixes (like Chocolate Truffle or Carrot Cake) contain fine flour and sugar particles that are more prone to absorbing moisture than dry spice blends.

  • Store opened cake mixes in the refrigerator if your kitchen tends to be humid
  • Bring the mix back to room temperature before baking for the best texture
  • Use within the recommended window on the pack once opened, even if refrigerated

4. Don’t Use Wet Utensils

This sounds simple, but it’s one of the most common causes of spoilage. A single damp spoon dipped into a spice or cake premix can introduce enough moisture to affect the whole pack over time.

  • Always use a clean, dry spoon to scoop out premix
  • Keep the pack away from steam when cooking on the stovetop

5. Check the “Best Before” Date, Not Just the Smell

Our premixes typically stay fresh for 3–6 months unopened, with the exact shelf life printed on each pack. Once opened, try to use the product within 4–6 weeks for the best flavor, especially for beverage premixes like Cold Coffee or Lemonade, which have a more delicate aroma than spice blends.

Quick Storage Checklist

  • ✅ Seal tightly after every use
  • ✅ Store in a cool, dry spot — not near heat
  • ✅ Use dry utensils only
  • ✅ Refrigerate opened cake mixes in humid weather
  • ✅ Use within 4–6 weeks of opening for best taste

Following these simple habits means every batch you make — whether it’s a quick weekday Masala Chai or a weekend Biryani — tastes as close to fresh-ground as possible, every single time.
